EAGLES Superbowl NICU Fundraiser!

By Blog

Hi everyone!

Happy Saturday and Happy Eagles Superbowl Weekend!! It has been like Christmas around here everyone is in good spirits and I just love it! I have to be honest… I’m not much of a football fan but I AM super excited to relax with my family and eat lots of yummy treats tomorrow.

The Eagles Superbowl came at a great time because I have been wanting to host a little fundraiser for quite a while. When the Eagles won their last game, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to get people in the studio for a fun, carefree shoot celebrating our local team while supporting an amazing cause. Today, we had 20 gorgeous children in the studio for Donate What You Wish Sessions and 100% of the proceeds went to Cooper + Virtua’s Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Personally, I have worked with dozens of beautiful babies that spent time in these hospitals after birth, so it has an extra special place in my heart. To participate in the session, clients were required to make a donation of any size… they could have donated $1 or more for this very small 2-3 minute session. I was so humbled and absolutely blown away by the kindness I saw today.

Thanks to my incredibly generous clients, we raised $625+ for this cause!!!!! WHAT?!?!

With this money, we were able to donate a ton of items off of the NICU wishlist:

  • 76 Premie + Newborn Onesies
  • 67 Receiving Blankets
  • 28 Lunchboxes
  • 26 Icepacks
  • 23 Hand Sanitizers
  • 12 Pairs of Newborn Mittens
  • 7 Hand Lotions
  • 2 Boppy Pillows

Clients, friends + family who donated… I am thankful for all of you beyond words and I am so glad that together we were able to help all of the little fighters in our community. My “job” has introduced me to so many genuine and kind people I am so blessed to know you! All of our little Eagles fans were TOO CUTE!! Clients  please take a look at your email for information on how to download.

Go Eagles!

All my love,
Jena Rae

2017 Fall/Holiday Slideshow!

By Blog

Hello everyone!

It is 1:31am… officially Christmas Eve. I am fairly certain that I have forgotten a few presents, slacked on wrapping, and should have started prepping my holiday dinner today but instead I am enjoying the evening with my family and reflecting on our holiday season in the studio. It was our busiest yet- we worked with so many beautiful families this year and loved every minute of it. I am such a broken record because I always say that every year was the best year ever but… this really was the best year ever! Thank you to all of you for being so unbelievably patient and kind during such a busy and chaotic time of year. Please know how much I love all of you and how thankful I am that you picked me to capture your family this year. Enjoy our holiday slideshow and if I missed anyone – I promise it wasn’t intentional I tried to go down the list with my 1 am eyes half open.

Have a very happy holiday with your families and thank you thank you thank you for working with us!!

Keep smiling,
Jena Rae

Black Friday Specials!! Medford, NJ Maternity | Newborn Family Photographer

By Blog

Hi everyone and happy Thanksgiving!

I hope your hearts and bellies are full after a relaxing day with your families. I woke up early today and went to Starbucks with Vince + Cooper. We have a little holiday tradition where we treat ourselves to our morning coffee and then take our spoiled dog to the dog park for a little swim and exercise before our big day. We went to Vince’s parents in the early afternoon to hang out with his parents and mine. I have dinner #1 there and then we head to my grandparent’s house to spend time with my dad and his side of the family. Eating on Thanksgiving has become a science for me… I’ve learned to only eat certain things at each house so that I can make it through the day without being sick. When my husband and I first started dating, we did double dinners and I learned my lesson the hard way. I ate SO much at each house that I ended up having to drive home with the windows down and my head in a bag… I was so sick from my two dinners that I missed my Black Friday shopping the next day!

Speaking of Black Friday…

Every year I do Black Friday specials as a way to show you all how thankful I am for your continued support. I couldn’t do what I love every single day if it weren’t for each and every one of you… I say it often but THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. My life is so fulfilling because I am able to watch your families laugh and grow year after year. Enjoy your holiday weekend, enjoy your families, and enjoy our

I love you guys!

Happy Thanksgiving + happy shopping!

Doing what you love is freedom, Loving what you do is happiness

By Blog

Hi all!

As usually I am slacking with blog posts. But I am (for once) a bit ahead in the editing department so I figured I would squeeze in a little blog entry.

Aside from doing photography in most of my time, I spend a lot of time with my husband Vince and my bestie, Cooper. We hike and cook and go on boating trips. But recently, I’ve been doing yoga and it has really awakened a humbling and grateful part of my soul. I’ve always been grateful for my career; however, I’ve been thinking so much about how and why I do what I do and I truly believe it is what I am meant to be doing.

A lot of my clients ask me “so how did you get into photography?”

The direct answer: my mom bought me a camera when I was nine. I took pictures of my dog and clouds and waves at the beach (they’re still hanging in my childhood bathroom at my parents house!) but I never thought of photography as a career. I went to college for English and education (I’ve always loved kids) because I literally couldn’t think of anything else to do with my life. I graduated and started long-term subbing quite a bit and while I absolutely loved all of my students, I couldn’t land a full time job for the life of me. I came home crying daily and my husband finally sat me down and said “enough is enough… what do you want to do for the rest of your life?” I just stared at him and cried and he said, “how about photography? You clearly love it.” And that was literally that. Vince went on Craigslist and bought me $300 worth of photography related items and we never looked back. I did maybe 10 sessions my first year and continued teaching full time. I interviewed a million times at the school that I was long-term subbing at and I finally decided that I was going to push my photography business and go full time in the summer of 2015 when I was turned down for yet another job. Literally the next day, I was offered a full time (52k/year salary) and I turned it down.  No promise of income whatsoever. People called me stupid. People doubted me and I really can’t blame them. I had 10 clients.

The real answer: I am doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. My soul was purposely lead here. When I was unhappy at my teaching job, my grandmother used to say “My mother always said, if they wanted it to be fun, they would have called it play.” That absolutely crushed me. I couldn’t imagine working a job every day that I didn’t love. And now, I don’t. I love every second of every day with my clients. I work around the clock capturing memories for my clients and nothing makes me happier. I am truly blessed to be in this business and I feel like I’m “playing” every single day.

I often wonder what life would be like if I continued my teaching career. I think about who would have captured my client’s memories if I didn’t. All I know, is that I’m glad that I was lead here. All of the hardships, late nights and long days are so incredibly worth it. I am so grateful for my clients who trust me, my family and friends who believe in me and the world that forever inspires me. I promise, I don’t take any of your moments for granted.

“By doing what you love, you inspire and awaken the hearts of others.”

Keep smiling,
Jena Rae

Client Spotlight: Renee + Liam

By Blog

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by for today’s client feature!

I remember the day I met Liam and Renee like it was yesterday. It was a brisk, sunny afternoon on March 3rd and Renee had just become a big sister the day before to sweet baby Liam. Kelly and John, their parents, booked me for a Fresh48 to capture Liam’s first days in the hospital. I walked in the room and instantly felt an overwhelming amount of love and kindness from the whole family. We began taking photos and Renee was a little unsure about what role she wanted to play in the session. She loved her little brother Liam but she wasn’t super interested in taking pictures with him at first. At the time, Renee was only about two so she was more interested in climbing on the chairs and exploring the hospital room. We decided to find a little treat that would lure Renee into the photos with her new brother but the only thing we could find was a gift that Kelly received from the hospital- it was some type of glass jar with diner mints inside. I wasn’t fully convinced that Renee would have much interest in the mints (and I’m not sure Kelly and John were either… what two year old likes mints?). We put a little mint underneath Liam (pictured below) and I captured one of my all time Fresh48 shots of Renee “looking longingly at her brother” but really we know she was actually just reaching for a mint. After Renee ate the mint, she was literally addicted. You would have thought we gave her the most delicious chocolate or ice cream… she was completely obsessed. I can still hear her saying, “Mints! Mints! Mints, pwease!” Renee had about 30 mints during the one hour session but she was just so cute we really couldn’t help it. I think sometimes we crave the perfect picture so badly that we forget about the stories behind our photos. In many years when Renee and Liam are older and they are flipping through an album with their mama and they come across this beautiful photo, I know Kelly and John will tell them this story and they will laugh and laugh about this amazing day.

Keep Smiling!

Client Feature: The best part about my job

By Blog

Hi all!

Thanks for tuning in today for a very special client feature. As some of you may know, before I was a photographer, I was a teacher. My favorite part about being a teacher wasn’t lecturing, grading tests, or creating review games. The thing I loved about teaching was watching my students change and develop into amazing little people from September to June. When I started my photography career, I had no idea that I would get to do the exact same thing with my clients and their children. Capturing the important moments of my client’s lives is such a blessing and I am so thankful that they trust in me to do so- it is truly one of the best parts of my job.

One of my lovely clients just had her first birthday this weekend. I think I photographed this gorgeous little girl with her family (at least) once every three or so months and I am so grateful to have worked with them throughout the year. I’m excited for this blog post because it is a beautiful photo story of lovely Reese’s first year. She is such a smiley, sweet little girl and it has been an honor to watch her grow.
